Political Parties
George Washington, a great national patriot and founding father of this great country stated in his farewell address, that political parties should avoided because of the damage they can cause. None the less, America adopted political parties and it has changed the way the political system has been done. The Two Political Party System makes everyone pick a side on either Democrats (D) or Republicans (R) .However there are third party groups throughout the United States and because of these two powerhouse parties, their voices and opinions go unheard in politics.
The National Congress, composed of the House of Representatives and Senate has roughly around 4 or 5 Independent or Third parties. The rest are all Democrats or Republicans. The numbers speak for themselves, there is no way that third party groups can have their opinion heard in Congress. Not only in there but in the history in the United States there has never been an independent president or third party. They simply do not have the numbers to support them to run against the two powerful Parties. Although the number of independent voters has been rising and is at an all time high of 43% of Americans according to research done by Gallup, they still don’t stand a chance in elections. For example, this year Donald Trump this year is threatening to run independently if he is not elected candidate for the Republican party. This will ultimately split up the party and allow the Democratic candidate to gain the upper hand and the majority of votes. Trump will just not have the numbers or support to have a chance to win if he runs independently. Many citizens also argue that a third party is needed to bring in new ideas and to offer a different point of view. Looking at charts done by Gallup, it shows that since 2004 through 20014 the number of people that believe a third party is needed has grown considerably. The reason the United States was fought for and created in the first place was because of total tyranny and power in the government of England. This power was given mostly through the king. He controlled the government. In this day in age, the government is controlled by the two party political system. The Democrats and Republicans have been around since the early 1800s. That is give or take 200 years. It took the colonies 250 years to rebell against the government. It is only a matter of time before the third group parties stand up for themselves and their ideas to be heard. The nation clearly did exactly what our founding father of George Washington told us not to do. The 2 Political Party system is dangerous to the freedom of this country and it’s citizens. |
